Using a Simulator For Golf Practice

Two weeks ago, I found out that there was a simulator in town. It is at a local sports store and I can rent it for $20 an hour. And the money goes to charity. What a great ideas. Thanks Sport Chek for opening your doors to us golf enthusiasts and for supporting a local charity.

I went last week and found that my spin rate was in the mid to high 4000 rpm. I know this is very poor and researched fixes during the week. I have a couple of things I need to work on and as such I am not ready to discuss anything concrete. Let’s just say, I am trying to achieve this spin rate with an extra 50 yards:

Spin rate has always been a concern of mine and I will be working this area moving forward for a bit. I realize it is very early in the golf season and I am not panicking, but I like to have something to focus on to keep my moving forward. Once the temperatures increase, I will move my efforts to my short game. But for now, I am off to the simulator.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

  1. Jim, these simulators pack an awful lot of data. Make sure you are measuring what matters. At the end of the day, if the spin rate is what’s driving your improvement program and you feel like your swing changes are accurately reflected in a higher number, more power to you. Good luck as you ramp up!

I actually do not get carried away with the numbers on tje simulator. The spin rate is something I have had challenges with in the past so I am just curious more than anything else. It is just an opportunity to swing the clubs as the snow finally melts.

      Cheers Jim
