Putting Tip From Brad Faxon

Golf is a game where inches can either lower or increase your score. Most amateurs make their most shots around the green and in some cases half on the putting surface. Since we rack up the most strokes on the green, it makes sense that we focus more of our practice time on the putting surface. If this is true, what tips should we follow to lower our overall score. That is a great question and I recently found out that there is no one defining method to putt regardless of our skill level. I know you are shaking your heads right now, but it really is true……I think. 😉

Just Playing Golf For Fun

There are many times when I just want to head out to the golf course and hit a little white ball. I have no intention to improve my game, I just want to enjoy my time on the links. Take today for instance, I am heading to Osprey Links to play Senior’s day with my old crew. It is going to be a great time and I have not illusions about my score. Likely we will play a format where individual scores do not matter. And today, this approach will be an awesome thing because I just want to have fun and enjoy playing golf with my friends. There are many ways to enjoy your time on the links and I think I have used most of them over the years.

Stay Calm While Pitching or Chipping

Pitching and chipping around the green often causes anxiety for amateur golfers. We feel that these delicate shots are a challenge because we are not confident with our ability to get the ball up and down. Of course practice will help, however staying calm during the entire short game process can be a game changer for many aspiring golfers. The challenge most of us that we focus on the wrong aspects of pitching and chipping hence we do not produce a swing that we can repeat more often than not. I bet you are wondering what the heck is going on in the world of golf! I find it interesting to look back our roots to understand how or at least how our modern clubs were developed. My friend Lorne, President of the Golf Historical Society of Canada, is a true historian of golf. He imparts his knowledge about this great sport to anyone who is willing to listen and of course, I am a willing listener. After several discussions with Lorne, I realize that innovation in golf back in the early 1900’s was driven by several factors, but one stands out in my mind: supply and demand!
