Have you ever played a round of golf where you scored well, but left so many strokes on the course it was frustrating. Well, that is exactly what happened to me yesterday. I shot 79 (a good score considering) and I only hit 3 greens in regulation. It was a crazy round and there was nothing I could do to change my fortune. I started off mediocre and finished a bit stronger than the beginning. So, why do I think I scored well by played weak golf? Let me tell you.

How Often Do You Shoot Your Golf Handicap Index
As a golfer, creating a handicap index is the a fundamental process important to your game improvement. I realize much of the local golfing industry has moved away from supporting a handicap index by the format of their tournaments. Who needs a handicap if you never plan to compete in events that require one. That is a topic worth pursuing in the future. However, today is a simple knowledge question of how often do you think you shoot your handicap…..if you had one?

Most golfers who find their handicap dropping will collect data to monitor their play. This data is converted into stats which they can use to focus on specific areas of their game. Kevin, a regular at The Grateful Golfer, has mentioned many times over the years that collecting and analyzing stats is more than just numbers on a page. I agree wholeheartedly. When I worked I, like Kevin, use stats off the course to determine courses of action or at least recommend a way forward. This analytical process has helped my golf game over the years because I learned to gather and apply fact based results to lower my score. This process of stat analysis is one I used to consistently break 80 and you can as well.

I generally keep my grip as neutral as possible. Sometimes, when my attention wanders, my grip starts to shift towards the weak position. I am always looking for a way to quickly put my hands in the correct position. Now, I came across this a video that might help. I mentally went through the process described by Smash Factor and it looks like it will work. When you read this, I will be on the course giving this new process a try, so more information to follow on how it worked for my game.

How melodramatic of me to think that this early in the season I need to worry about my putting. During my last round, I only putted 29 times with no 3 putts. But that was not the good news that I need to embrace moving forward. What has me excited is that my touch returning. You know, that feeling in our hands, shoulders, and swinging motion that allows us to make great judgement calls on the green. Regardless of how long the putt, when my touch is on I feel I can sink a putt every time. There is no doubt that having my touch back is a great sign for my golf game.
