I cannot remember the number of times I have talked about producing spin on the ball around the green. I am okay at this skill, but I would never consider myself an expert. I understand the concept of placing spin on the ball and in my mind this transfer to a soft touch during contact. It might seem like a stretch for many players who find it challenging to land the ball softly in their landing area. Regardless of where your thoughts are, it is important to understand that having the ability to place spin on the ball (even slightly) helps us control the ball all the way to the end result.

Hitting A Difficult Sand Shot
There are many different difficult shots you can face during a round of golf. One of the most challenging is the fried egg lie in a bunker. You know the one where the ball is three quarters buried and it looks impossible to get your ball out cleanly. I carry a 60° wedge. I made the decision years ago to remove my 5 wood and replace it with a lob wedge. I feel that my wedge play is more important than the distance I gain from the wood. It took a bit of time to learn how to properly use a lob wedge, but I think I have a pretty good grasp on how and when to use it. The high pitch shot is one of the more difficult skills to master in golf. It requires a great deal of confidence to swing fast at a ball that is close to green. Additionally, the mechanics does cause some challenges to the less skilled players, however it is a shot that most elite players have developed (in one form or another) in order to refine their short game. I use this shot from time to time, but it was not until recently that I realized my aim point was wrong and I was following through incorrectly. To continually seek improvement in my short game, I found a simple process that helps eliminate my high pitch aiming challenges.
Continue readingCan You Make The Bad Shots Stop?
My golf game is a series of good shots mixed with a bunch of bad shots and a whole slew of average shots. On any given day, ratio between all three changes. The result definitely affects my score, but that is the nature of my golf game. On the days where my poor (bad) strokes seem to creep up on the ‘oh please stop’ meter, I think I have found a couple of ways to stop or at a minimum reduce my increasing stroke count. They are not profound, but help me right my sinking ship.
