With The Masters in the books, spring just around the corner, and schedules being developed, it is time to work on my golf game. With a 6 month break from playing golf, I find that I sometimes have to relearn my golf swing. It does not take very long, but some goofy swing faults do rear their ugly heads and as such, I need a way to banish them to the abyss. Unfortunately for many players, these faults are hard to eliminate than they think. Alas, I have found a way forward that all golfers can use to improve their overall golf game.

Pitching The Golf Ball From Distance
Pitching the ball is a challenge from distance. Many of us hit more shots than we want from 40 to 60 yards. Understanding different shot options from that distance will go a long way to lowering our golf scores. The focus of today is the pitch shot from distance. Specifically, the USGA instructor Sam Vosler, lead golf coach for the Sanford Power Golf Academy, suggests two things to remember when hitting a 40 yard chip shot that is worth discussing.

Amazingly, the simple solutions of sand play can be found in the coolest of places. Imagine Masters Champions Tiger Woods and Scottie Scheffler offering a clinic on how to hit out of a sand trap. This information they provide would be invaluable to any golfer. Each has a different technique and use different clubs (routinely) to splash out of the sand, but both have some fundamental or core actions that lead to their success. Listening to them chat about sand play greatly enhanced my knowledge; talk about being lucky or what!

Being able to understand how to hit fantastic golf shots like professionals is a serious golfer’s dream. We watch and try to learn, but there is always something that is overlooked that makes the world of difference to the shot. After watching The Masters, I thought about how Tiger Woods was able to maneuver the ball around the green to leave himself a makeable putt. The number of times he practiced this shot would be astounding. I also thought, I sure would love to know how he makes these amazing chips. Well, look no further!

In commanding fashion, Scottie Scheffler won the 2024 Masters. This was his second win in three years and the fifth youngest player to win the Masters twice. There was no surprise as Scheffler lived up to his world number one ranking with long straight drives, precision irons and strong putting. Scheffler took a strong lead after Amen Corner and never looking back as he recorded a smooth 68. He earned his second green jacket!
