Taking A Step Back In Golf

Have you ever found yourself so focused on a specific aspect of your golf game that you forget to stick with what works? As a player who continually is trying to find golden nuggets in my game, I sometimes forget that I have built a foundation that works and should be at the forefront of all my adventuring. However, this is not always the case and the only real way to address this wayward path is to take a step back and refocus. It is not a bad thing, just part of the improvement process.

Golf Fundamentals and Lower Golf Scores

Any time we embark on the journey to learn something new, we always start in the same place. We start with understanding the fundamental skills required to become proficient at what we are learning. As a long time coach, teaching fundamentals was the corner stone of my philosophy in order to build a foundation for skill advancement. I believe that without creating the conditions of success through fundamentals will have detrimental affect when it is time to move forward with advanced skill development. And then I came across something that started me thinking that part of my philosophy of coaching was flawed.

How To Win A Golf Tournament

Have you ever won a golf tournament? It is a question I asked recently on Twitter and was not surprised at the responses. Most respondents entered the winners circle at their local course, but a few won some very high level events. It was impressive to read how many club champions there were; something I continue to aspire to still. I have won some tournaments over the years and there are three things that stood out with each victory. They were all that surprising, but something that created the blue print for my future rounds.

If anyone asks, my golf swing is perfect. I have worked on it for many years and finally feel that it is the best it can be! Yup, there is no question that right now your are either laughing, shaking your head, or spit up your coffee! If you are an avid golfer like myself, your golf swing is always in a state flux. As competitive golfers, we continually search for that one nugget that will improve our golf swing and lower of golf scores. It really is a never ending journey to perfection!

My First Round Of Golf Without My Dad

While participating in #Golfchat (Every Tuesday night at 8:30 pm EST) this week, a question was asked about when I played my first round of golf. That life changing event was with my Dad back in the mid 70s. Since then I fanned the flame to travel my golf path with exuberance. As I thought about my early days on the links, my first rounds of golf without my Dad is won I remember as clear as day. And that round will be the focus of my article today.
