Playing plenty of golf has the tendency to lead to a wandering mind. You know the affliction when you are thinking of a million things and none are on your golf game. The stray thoughts on the golf course surely leads to higher scores and greater frustration. I experienced this challenge many times in my career and it usually happens when I play four or five days in a row. It is not something I can control, but try to work through when it happens. I am not sure there is a fix for a wandering mind, but I sure would like to think so for the sake of my game.

This article is a follow on to my last post called Sharing Golf Knowledge – Part 1. It covers more knowledge I shared with Noah when we played last week. The crux of our discussions focused on developing a strong short game with which he could build. We played nine holes and in that time, we discussed how to build a strong short game foundation. Walking off the ninth green, Noah said he felt confident that he can refine what we discussed and eventually lower his golf scores. I am confident he can as well.

I accepted their help because at the time my need was great to get over a hurdle or two. As an amateur who misses the green 50% of the time (probably more) on approach shots, developing strong chipping skills was a priority early in my career. I understood that shooting low scores is as much about being able to putt well, but also to shorten the length of putts. To accomplish this difficult feat, I focused my efforts on improving my chipping game in order to produce the successful results needed to shoot lower golf scores. It was a simple process and one I still focus on today.
