Every round of golf provides some excitement for every golfer. Regardless of how well we play, there are always a shot or two (or more) that make us smile or frown depending on their complexity. During my last round of golf I had two situations worth mentioning because they demonstrate the highs and lows of my round. There were a few other shots that made me think, but for the most part these two stood out the most as I shot three over par 77. There are some teaching points here and they are worth sharing.

During every round of golf, there are multiple opportunities to hit different approach shots from around the green. Our short game is always tested in various fashions. Every golfer knows this fact and many try to mitigate the challenges by mastering three shots every golfer should have in their bag: the chip, pitch and flop shot. Each has a varying degree of difficulty with the flop shot being the most challenging. It is different from a normal wedge shot because the sand creates a different set of influences that affect the release and ball flight. I spent a great deal of time early in my career hitting bunker shots and now I consider them just another shot during my round. There are two different ways to play each bunker shot and today we are going to discuss them both.
