How To Successfully Hit A Hybrid

Removing my long irons out of my golf bag and replacing them with hybrids was the smartest decision I made with respect to my golf equipment. This particular journey start in 2009 when I was diagnosed with Lymphoma for the first time. I was feeling a bit down and I decided to purchase a set of Cleveland launchers that had a 3, 4, and 5 hybrid instead of irons. I had thought about making the change to hybrids (dabbling with their use) and the time was right. Although my journey was a bit of a roller coaster ride, I think the decision to commit to using hybrids elevated my game to the next level.

Expecting Your Golf Game to Improve

This is the time of year in my golf season where I expect my scores to start a downward trend. We are about six weeks late due to COVID, but that is not something that I lament on because it is out of my control. As I look forward, this is about the time in the season when the rust is mostly knocked off and I can rely on consistent play. This is nothing new for me as it happens every year. Is There A Difference Between Driver And Iron Swings?

My first steps in my golfing journey created the positive conditions of learning that has been ongoing for 40+years. I will admit that in the past 25 years I have become a student of the game. My path was not always smooth, yet it was one of golf enlightenment. Before I get a head of myself, I realized about 15 years ago that my educational trek will never end and that has helped reduce my frustration will learning new golf skills. This goal directed my efforts to analyze the difference between my driver and iron set up, swing, and follow through. Not surprisingly, my golf knowledge has grown and I am excited to continue down this current path.

What a Great Miss!

It is interesting that golfers think that every shot should be a great. This unwavering believe in hope that each shot will result in magical things is absolute. Unfortunately, not every shot results in great things. Sometimes it is better to lucky than good. This happens countless times during a season and as a matter of fact, it happened twice on the same hole in my last round. My group chuckled about it and commented that both shots were a great miss and that everyone needs to be lucky to score good scores.

Is Driver Loft Important For Increased Distance?

The discussion of more driver loft for increase distance has decided to rear its confusing head again. It is interesting that the hype created by manufacturers is fueling the potential desire to change driver settings without really understanding the reasons or science of why hitting it higher is important. I have recently changed my hitting technique to launch my ball a bit higher to gain some added distance, but that is because I was handcuffing myself by trying to drive the ball versus launching the ball. More on that below. Regardless, it is important to understand that hitting the ball higher does not necessarily equate to longer distances with the driver; there are so many other factors to understand!
