Focusing on the Right Fix in Your Golf Swing

14th Hole Roundel Glen

“Can’t see the forest for the trees!”

Most golfers are fixers or at least we think we are. We have a tendency to tinker with all parts of golf swing because we think that a tweak here and a tweak there is exactly what we need. Unfortunately, as the above quote suggests that many of us are too involved in the details of a problem to look at the entire situation.

Not focusing on the right fix, adjusting our golf swing can cause a domino effect of challenges. Most of us like to jump in and change something because it lets us think we are making progress and improving. However, I would suggest steaming ahead without looking at the whole process is folly. The holistic approach is critical to identifying the ‘root cause’ to any swing challenges Continue reading

Introspection of my 2016 Golf Season

Each year I take the time to analyze my previous season. It is important to see my highlights as well as my challenges in order to improve in the next year. I find that through introspection, I am able to create my off-season training plan and to prepare for the next years games.

Sometimes it is a challenging process that bruises my ego, however it is, nonetheless, important to my golf game of the future. Introspection helps me cut between the wheat and the chaff and focus on what really needs to be changed in my game.  Continue reading

Golf Wisdom – Schooled By Experience

Old ClubsGolf is an interesting sport, the young seem to think they can dominate the wily veteran through sheer power, but I am not so sure. Bernhard Langer at this year’s Masters was schooling the young guns until the last round; although he had a tough last round, he did finish in T27, not bad for a 58-year-old! For the first three rounds, he used his guile, experience and confidence to stay in the hunt and that kind of golf wisdom is generally gained from experience.

This reminds me of a game of golf about 25 years ago that taught me many lessons I never want to repeat. The main lesson was to never underestimate my opponent, regardless of what they look like, swing, or equipment they use; and never think that you have them beat before you start to play!

How to Lower Your Golf Score

How to lower your golf score is a claim by most golf “experts”. Everyone has a plan, technique, process, or training aid that will quickly lower your score. Of all the claims, there is one fundamental step that every player has to take to achieve any kind of success. It is nothing complicated, yet without it, very little gains can be made to lower your golf score.

At The Grateful Golfer, I make recommendations on areas that I think will help your game. I make no promises, nor do I believe that each tip will help every golfer. There are so many variables, that I am not sure there is a one tip fix for any game. So how do we lower our golf score to become a better the golfer? Continue reading
