Which Golf Shot Should I Hit Next?

Golf is a sport of decisions. Regardless where you are on the course, you are making a plethora of decisions in order to shoot your lowest score possible. I think this game has more definitive decisions than most sports and as such experience is a key factor to being successful. Another critical factor about playing well is to check our ego. Sometimes our ego lures us down a rabbit hole into a wonderland of crazy. The key for most amateurs is to understand what they can and cannot do with their clubs in order to select the right shot for any given situation. This is a lesson I still learn from time to time, but I am getting better at checking my ego at the door. Are you?

Do You Rush Your Golf Shot?

Many golfers try to establish a rhythm when they play. This playing tempo drives virtually all aspects of their game and if done properly can lead to some great golf scores. If rushed then disaster can ensue. It is a matter of control, but sometimes when I play I get caught up trying to play fast, my whole processes fly out the window. The next thing I know 14 holes are over and I cannot seem to slow myself down enough to even line up a shot. It really is a challenge sometimes not to rush past the enjoyment of the round.

The Possibilities Are Endless Or Are They?

I remember, early in my golfing career, talking to a gentlemen about the different ways to play a golf shot. He suggested that there were endless possibilities and an equally number of outcomes. At the time, I took his sage advise without question, but now I am not so sure that this is the case. I guess from a purely mathematical point of view, that is possible. Sometimes In Golf We Just Have To Hit The Ball!

The ability to examine a golf shot in excruciating detail is skill that many amateurs develop as they work at lowering their handicap index. Swinging the golf club is definitely an important skill, but knowing what shot to hit when becomes as important, if not more, the closer you become to being a scratch golfer. I understand this because experience has taught me that the obvious shot is not necessarily the correct shot. Sometimes we need to examine more stressors before coming to the final conclusion.
