Last Golf Game Of The 2024 Season

Today is it. I am hanging up my clubs after my hickory round today. My 2024 golf season will end as it started, playing my hickory stick clubs. However, today I will be playing a round with my friend Misha. He has indicated that he is interested in playing with the vintage clubs and today is the day we can make that happen.

I am not disappointed my season is ending…..well, not too disappointed. I am know I will have a long winter’s nap until April, but it is what it is and I am ready. Obviously, I will continue to talk about golf just to keep my passion alive and hopefully you, the reader, will continue to follow my golfing journey.

On a completely different note, my wife and I saw the Norther Lights in the sky last night and I thought I would show you the beauty of the nights sky that she captured. I have not observed such beauty since I was a young lad growing up; truly spectacular!

Having Fun Trying A Unique Hickory Golf Club

As my golfing world expands due to hickory sticks, I am learning how much I do not know. I am taking my lack of knowledge as an opportunity to learn new things and to embrace different experiences. Of course there is a bit of frustration along this path, but the fun and enjoyment of learning and succeeding in new endeavours outweighs any negative aspects of my new golfing path. Having said that, I had an opportunity to try an unique hickory club design by BTI club makers. It was quite a bit of fun and offered something new to think about with respect to my game.

Practicing My Short Game With My Hickory Sticks

Today, I practiced my short game for about an hour. It was very rewarding and I found out a few things about my hickory clubs. It is not really profound, but it is something I needed to determine before my tournament next week. I did determine what clubs to use when and how they respond to contact. Interestingly, I noticed that my hickory sticks need cleaning and I am all over that requirement. In the meantime, I found out other things that will be valuable moving forward.

Ending Of My Golf Season With A Fun Event

With the first week of September in the books, I look ahead and see that my golf season is quickly approaching. I realize that I can still golf through October, however as the weather changes, the number of hours that are available during any given day are drastically reducing. The shortening golf season happens every year and it is something I am prepared to accept. This year, I will end my season with a two day trip to participate in the 2024 Ontario Open Hickory Golf Championship.

500th Hickory Stick Golf Game

In just a few short years, my friend Lorne Emery has played his 500th game using his hickory shafted golf clubs. An ardent player of old clubs, Lorne invited me to join him on his historic journey. As I arrived early at the Cambridge Golf Club to discuss Lorne’s hickory stick passion, I quickly realized that this phase of his golf journey has only just begun. Listening to him talk about the history of golf and how it applies to present day equipment demonstrates that today’s innovations in clubs are rooted in hickory sticks. Lorne and I had a fantastic day that encompassed more than just talking about hickory sticks.
