Match Play Format in Golf

Match Play format is suppose be the big equalizer in golf. It offers an opportunity for a player to rebound quickly if they have a blow up hole. Each hole is its own competition and each player has the opportunity to gain 0, half, or a full point. At the end of the round, we add up all the points and the player with most points win. The long hitting Dustin Johnson seems poised to stay on top of the golfing world for quite some time. His win yesterday at the WC Match Play Championship was a clinic for anyone and demonstrated his dominance on the links. As he continues to cement his position atop of the world golf rankings, I notice that some pundits are wondering if anyone will be able to beat him at the Masters! Taking a Putt in Golf

How many times have you taken a putt? You know, when you miss your first attempt and walk up a pick your ball up. I have for sure over the years, but I like to think that I have a maximum distance before picking up my ball. Before you give me the lazy eye, I know we have all done it without any regrets.

In the big scheme of things, I do not sweat picking up the odd putt in the course of several rounds, yet I have to wonder if this is really helping my game. Of course the real answer is that it does hurt my game when I need to putt everything, yet sometimes I do not care and just want to have fun playing. Continue reading

Intersection Golf Final – The Results

Yesterday I competed in the 22 Wing intersection golf finals. The format for the intersection matches was a 2-person scramble / match play. After 5 months of league play, it all came down to one match between the two top teams. The league play set the ranking for the playoffs and since our team finished highest in the standings we were given the number one spot.

Having defeated the number 4 team last week, it was time to face the 2nd ranked team, as they also won last week. Walking towards the first tee, all four players knew that this year’s final would be a seesaw battle. And what a match it was! Continue reading

I am playing in the finals of intersection golf today! It is a two-person scramble / match play event over 18 holes. My partner is very strong, so we have a good chance to bring home the trophy for our Unit!
