Still Time To Register For The 2026 Ontario Open Hickory Golf Championship

REGISTRATION IS STILL OPEN for this key event, though Saturday is now sold out. We can still accomodate Friday and Sunday play. Lots of prizes are available—gross, net, skills and draw. For the warm-up scramble event on Friday, October 2 at Legends-on-the-Niagara, we can still accomodate another four players. The Championship rounds are on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4.

Whirpool GC, Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, is the site of this years Ontario Hickory Golf Championship. It is a fun course that presents some great challenges for any golfer. Whirlpool Golf Course stands as one of Canada’s most esteemed public golf destinations, boasting a rich history dating back to its opening in 1951. Crafted by the legendary architect Stanley Thompson, Whirlpool represents the culmination of his illustrious career, embodying the essence of his masterful course designs. Nestled alongside the breathtaking Niagara River Gorge, the course showcases Thompson’s signature style with its classic parkland layout and strategic hole placement, offering golfers a delightful mix of challenges and scoring opportunities.

I played this event in the past. It is awesome to play with like minded golfers of varying experience. If you are looking for a golfing adventure, I recommend you traveling to the Niagara region to partake in this fantastic hickory event.

This year, I am participating in the Friday fun scramble. Should be a great time and I look forward to teaming up someone with big shoulders who can carry me to victory. 😉

The Northern Hickory Tour at Laurentide Golf Course

The second official round of the Northern Hickory Tour took place a week ago at the Laurentide Golf Course in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada. This is a fun track and was worth the time we spent playing with our hickory sticks. We had 11 players and mixed up our playing partners to ensure everyone played with everyone over the course of the tour. Overall it was a fantastic day and I played my best round ever with my hickory sticks and I am excited to hit the links again very soon.

2026 Ontario Open Hickory Golf Championship

it is that time of year to start thinking about the Ontario Open Hickory Golf Championship. Each year, this premium event draws golfers from all over to vie for the title of champion. I have played in this event a couple of times and this year I am looking forward playing against some great competitors in the Open category. I am creeping up in age, but I still feel I can compete at this highest level. We shall see how my game holds up. If you are looking to play in this event, see below for more information:

There are options to only play during one day of the event (the GHSC is trying to include as many hickory players as possible), so check out and see where you fit in!

This is a fun event and it looks to be another banner year. Whirlpool Golf Course is a great challenge and a fantastic layout for hickory golf. I look forward to looking around this fun track.

Focused Practice With My Hickory Sticks

With the Ontario Open Hickory Golf Championship at Whirlpool Golf Course on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, 2025 it is time to hone my skills with my hickory sticks. In order to achieve this lofty goal, I am taking more time to practice. Specifically, I am writing my yardages down on my mismatched clubs in order to understand when to hit what club. Due to the manufacturers and age of the clubs, what might seem like a no-brainer 7 iron shot, is actually a challenge because of the different reactions to hitting a ball. Regardless, I have started my journey and I am excited to see what happens this year at the hickory event. Back to how I am approaching my practice times with my wooden shafted golf clubs.

Nearing The End Of Golf Season

As silly as it sounds, the first week of September signals the downhill slide of my yearly golf season. The weather starts to get cooler, wetter, and more unpredictable. After just returning from a two week trip (hence the zero articles), it is time to make the most of the good weather both on and off the golf course. As it turns out right now, I am playing in Men’s Night at my local course if it stops raining. Regardless, it is good to be back and I am ready to play. The question for me today is how am I going to approach my first round since in over two weeks!?
