Beating Back The Pressure In Golf

Regardless of you skill level, there will come a time when the pressure to make a great shot will force you to double think your options. Whether it is to win or tournament or trying to save double bogey, each player must learn to beat back the pressure of any given shot. The effort to do so can be a challenge and many players do not have a process to executed a must needed shot while under pressure. Of course playing through several situations will help formulate a strategy, however having something in place prior to shooting your way into a pressure shot sure will help your golf game.

What Happens To Your Golf Game When The Pressure Rises

For many golfers, when the pressure rises to score well, their success goes in the opposite direction. I do not say this lightly and I am not trying to slight anyone, however most golfers do not handle the pressure of a must hit shot very well. If you are wondering why success is so difficult to achieve, one only needs to examine their past experiences. Most amateur golfers rarely play in must make situations with their golf game. With the lack of exposure to pressure shots, many golfers do not have the knowledge to respond properly. Fortunately, I have played in many golf tournaments that produced a plethora of pressure situations; the results have improved as I became a more experienced player.

Playing Golf In Front Of A Crowd

Have you ever played golf in front of a crowd? I mean more that the group in front and the group in back watching/waiting for you to hit. Well, I have actually played a few holes where the crowd exceeded 50 people. The funny thing is that as I played more holes with a crowd, the better I played. Not surprisingly, the more holes I played my confidence grew to a point where the presence of the crowd was a non factor. Let me explain.

Hitting A Clutch Golf Shot

Golf is a series of pressure shots topped off with uber pressure shots. In between, there are your regular shots that require the same amount of focus as the pressure shots, but do not seem to have the same weight of consequence if missed. Hitting clutch shots would fall in the uber pressure category that most amateurs have challenges executing. Over the years, I played in many such situations and surprisingly, my success outdistances my failures. My last approach shot at the Senior Men’s Ryder Cup competition a few days ago is a perfect example of leveraging my past experiences of hitting a clutch shot when needed. I have a process that works 100% of the time, honest!
