Golf Short Game Shots You Need To Master

During every round of golf, there are multiple opportunities to hit different approach shots from around the green. Our short game is always tested in various fashions. Every golfer knows this fact and many try to mitigate the challenges by mastering three shots every golfer should have in their bag: the chip, pitch and flop shot. Each has a varying degree of difficulty with the flop shot being the most challenging. If you have not tried to improve your skill regarding these three shots, it might be time to focus some practice time in this area.

Do You Use A 60° Wedge?

I carry a 60° wedge. I made the decision years ago to remove my 5 wood and replace it with a lob wedge. I feel that my wedge play is more important than the distance I gain from the wood. I started my practice plan in preparation for the upcoming Hickory Championship next Monday and Tuesday. As I stated yesterday, I had a plan to work on my short game, putting and ball contact. I played nine holes and hit 5 balls from various locations on each hole. It was a plan to test out my hickories to determine which club I should hit from what distance. The plan started off well, but I need to make a few adjustments moving forward.

Shooting A Personal Best Golf Score

Well, how did that happen!? Yesterday, I shot my personal best of three under par 71 at the Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort. I was completely surprised as I was able to shoot five birdies, 2 bogeys and 11 pars. All of this with two poor strokes that led to over par one each hole. No one was more surprised than me and after I was able to calm down, I decided to dissect my round to see where things went right. After much thought, I am not surprised at the results.
