Regaining My Golf Swing After A Month Off

In the middle of June I had an operation that put me out of commission until just recently. It is nothing serious, but something that needed to be taken care of sooner than later. Yesterday, I went and played 12 holes and felt very good after finishing. I purposely have been taking my time getting back into a full round in order not to reinjure myself and delay my full return. As I was swinging away, right from the first tee, I noticed that my ball direction was not as consistent as normal. Sometimes I would tug the ball left or slice the ball right. Overall, the first few holes was definitely not as smooth as normal. That is okay, because I realized what I was doing and was able to straighten out my swing errors by the end of the 12 holes.

How To Stop Pulling Your Golf Ball Left

Hitting my golf ball left is nothing new. My consistent hitting error (when it shows up) is to pull the ball left. Usually, I engage my lower body late causing the clubhead to create an outward-in swing plane. This happens when I am trying to hurry my swing or generate more power. I forget to stay in balance and as such, I pull the ball left. Fixing this swing challenge is not really difficult or is it?

Wrist Torque And Your Golf Swing

Wrist torque and the golf swing is a real thing. I never encountered the explanation of how our hands and wrists affect the clubface before and I find it very interesting. The technical explanation offered in the video makes complete sense to me. I can see how the signals sent through our hands and wrists change the intent of hitting the ball square on impact. Interestingly, there is a simple fix that is nothing new, but it always helps to revisit this topic as a great reminder moving forward.

Watching The Club Face Hit The Ball

If I heard the saying “keep your head down/still” once, I heard it a thousand times. Although the saying does not offer a solution to most swing issues, it does point to a foundational swing move that all golfers need to perform to be successful. During a golf swing, there are many planes of movement that require synchronization and to do so, keeping our head still is the key to success. Knowing this, it is still a challenge to keep all parts of our of our swing coordinated enough to hit the ball where intended because we continue to have an overactive head. If only there was a drill to help with the bobble head challenge!

Hitting Off My DIY Hitting Mat

Recently, I received a question from my friend Doug about hitting of mats during the off season. He is fortunate to have a simulator close by, so he and his friends use it as a tune up for golf season. He mentioned that in the past when he can finally hit off grass that he thins the ball more often than he would like. He asked if I had any suggestions about how to avoid this challenge when transitioning from indoor to outdoor golf. It just so happens I do have a fix; at least one that works for me.
