Wrist Torque And Your Golf Swing

Wrist torque and the golf swing is a real thing. I never encountered the explanation of how our hands and wrists affect the clubface before and I find it very interesting. The technical explanation offered in the video makes complete sense to me. I can see how the signals sent through our hands and wrists change the intent of hitting the ball square on impact. Interestingly, there is a simple fix that is nothing new, but it always helps to revisit this topic as a great reminder moving forward.

Watching The Club Face Hit The Ball

If I heard the saying “keep your head down/still” once, I heard it a thousand times. Although the saying does not offer a solution to most swing issues, it does point to a foundational swing move that all golfers need to perform to be successful. During a golf swing, there are many planes of movement that require synchronization and to do so, keeping our head still is the key to success. Knowing this, it is still a challenge to keep all parts of our of our swing coordinated enough to hit the ball where intended because we continue to have an overactive head. If only there was a drill to help with the bobble head challenge!

Hitting Off My DIY Hitting Mat

Recently, I received a question from my friend Doug about hitting of mats during the off season. He is fortunate to have a simulator close by, so he and his friends use it as a tune up for golf season. He mentioned that in the past when he can finally hit off grass that he thins the ball more often than he would like. He asked if I had any suggestions about how to avoid this challenge when transitioning from indoor to outdoor golf. It just so happens I do have a fix; at least one that works for me.

Creating a Square Swing Path

As a general rule, I hit the ball straight. This tells me that my swing mechanics coordinated to a point where the club face is square to the golf ball on contact. Unfortunately, my swing path does deviate from time to time and if I miss the ball, I generally pull it left. This is a know error in my swing mechanics and I often work ensuring that my swing path is square to my aim line. Hence, I am always looking for simple, repeatable, and sustainable drills that provide instant feedback. I think I have found one.

How to Quickly and Easily Fix Your Slice

During my early years of golf, I played with a terrible slice. I would aim left of the fairway into the woods with the hope that my ball would shape back into the middle of the short grass. At that time, I adjusted my aim instead of taking the time to fix my terrible flight path. The worst part of my dilemma was I thought that aiming way left was the best way for play golf and as you can imagine, it only compounded my woes. Fast forward many years and I do not slice the ball very often (rarely in fact), but my path to where I currently play was painful and frustrating. I wish I had found Rick Sheils fix 30 years ago!
