Commit and Improve Your Golf Game

There are challenging shots during every round of golf. How we approach these shots determines the success or fail of any scorecard. For years, I have found that one or two shots during a round account for more strokes added to the final tally than anything else. It is the nature of my game, but I have found a counter when I approach shots that are daunting from the moment that I survey the shot. It is simple and easy for every golfer to achieve.

Without prolonging the suspense, the answer is very easy for each golf shot. When I play my best golf, I commit to each shot. I decide on how I am going to play the shot, select the club, focus on the aim point, and commit to executing the the shot I visualize. Golf is a simple game if I follow my own simple advice.

If you look at the shot below, it is a daunting 200 yard shot into a well protected green. The blue tees are elevate about 50 feet above the green and wind always blows from left to right. For me, this shot is a natural 4 hybrid shot. The trick is that I must commit to this difficult shot with no white noise providing doubts.

Osprey Links Golf Course: 17th hole, blue tees, 200 yards to middle of the green.

This difficult golf shot is made easy by two things. My aim point and the club I chose. First, my aimpoint is the telephone pole just the right of the peak of my cap. Given the distance and the wind direction, my ball will fade to the right towards the middle of the green.

The elevation of the box makes my 4 hybrid the perfect shot. I commit to hitting a normal shot which usually results in my ball landing 5 yards on the green and it stops in the middle of the green. Depending on the pin placement, I will not have anything more than a 30 foot putt. My 4 hybrid is the perfect club for this shot as it normally flies 185 yards, but not in this case. Overall, my club selection is perfect to this shot execution.

I hit the green more often than not because I commit to the shot and do not hesitate during its execution. This process is the key to my success on the golf course. Committing to what I decide is the best shot the a winning course of action. I recommend it to every player regardless of their skill!

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
