The 2023 Ryder Cup

With three days to go, the 2023 Ryder Cup is ramping up to be another interesting competition between Europe and the USA. The Ryder Cup will be hosted on Sept. 25-Oct. 1, 2023, at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, Rome, Italy. 24 of the worlds best golfers will tee it up in a competition that captures the golfing world. This year’s event has been rite with controversy, however when the first ball is hit, all of this craziness should be forgotten.

With only one LIV player, Brooks Koepka, making either team, many of the worlds best players will not be making the trip to Rome. Additionally, the host of legends that normally are the anchors of each Ryder Cup Team will not be playing. It is almost if there is a changing of the guard.

For some reason, I am not as excited about this year’s Ryder Cup event. There are a few players like Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Rose and Jordan Spieth who have the star power of the legends, however the rest are the big names in golf, but do not spark any sense of rivalry of days gone by.

I could be looking at this wrong, however I do not see the matches like McIlroy vs Reid or Mickelson vs Garcia happening this year. I think that the matches will have some great golf, but very little fire. I hope I am wrong, but time will tell.

The Ryder Cup is coming! What are your thoughts?

I am grateful golfer! See you on the links!

  1. Jim, on paper the US team looks deeper. My point of interest is watching controversial captain’s pick JT for Zach Johnson. Did he deserve the spot? If I am prognosticating, It’s Euro in a close one. Hope I’m wrong. USA!!

    Thanks,

    Brian

I think JT is definitely a wild card. If he does not play well in the first match I think he will be sitting until singles day. It is strange to see the Ryder Cup without the big names from the past. However, time does march on. I have not chosen a team yet….more thinking to be done.

      Cheers Jim
