Regardless of you skill level, there will come a time when the pressure to make a great shot will force you to double think your options. Whether it is to win or tournament or trying to save double bogey, each player must learn to beat back the pressure of any given shot. The effort to do so can be a challenge and many players do not have a process to executed a must needed shot while under pressure. Of course playing through several situations will help formulate a strategy, however having something in place prior to shooting your way into a pressure shot sure will help your golf game.
Preparing your golf game for any type of golf shot is always the goal. Sometimes the shots are easy peasy and other times we have to invent a shot to save strokes. Regardless of the situation, there is one aspect of any process that needs to determined before starting your pre-shot routine. In every case a certain decision must be made in order for all the moving parts to fall in place.
If your wondering what that one vital piece of information is……well, let me tell you.
The first step in beating back pressure during any golf shot is to decide the outcome that you want to achieve. I am not talking about the pie in the sky miracle shot, but one that makes sense for the situation and one that can be executed more often than not. This decision is vital to any possible outcome that has a chance of succeeding. First and foremost, determine the outcome.

Once the decision is made on the outcome, the rest falls in place. You will be able to select the club that will make your choice happen. You can determine the swing strength, loft of club needed, and your stance needed to hit a solid golf shot. Additionally, and probably as important, determining the final outcome empowers you to commit to the shot.

Committing to your shot helps you mentally beat back the pressure of a difficult shot. You know what needs to be done and the negative thoughts are pushed away. The decision and commitment to high pressure shots definitely helps produce a successful outcome.
These might seem like a simple response to a difficult situation, but believe me it helps. I have relied on these two basic fundamentals for years. They have allowed me to play better golf and shoot lower golf scores. I think they can help you as well if you are open to trying something new.
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
