Moving day at the 2025 Masters was by far the most fun to watch in years. Saturday is traditionally the time when players make their move to position themselves for the final push on Sunday. Two players stood out and a couple moved up the leaderboard. With only 18 holes to go, I predict that if a player is not with five strokes, the chances of winning the green jacket are virtually non-existent. Although it is possible, it is unlikely that Patrick Reed or Ludvig Åberg will shoot well enough and Rory McIlroy, Corry Conners or Bryson DeChambeau will all play poorly enough to open the door for a run from down the field. So, with this in mind, what can expect in the final round of the 2025 Masters.
I expect the player, McIlroy, DeChambeau or Conners, who starts the fastest will win the green jacket. Rory has the best chance considering his last two starts, but you cannot count our either player. There are a few factors that will influence the round, however each player should be able to respond the extra stressors.
Some of the stressors will be Augusta National will play very tough due to the drier conditions. The greens will be harder and the putts will roll faster. These two particular conditions will benefit McIlroy and DeChambeau the most as Conners seems to be struggling with his putter. However, if that changes Conners will be in the mix down the stretch.
McIlroy will have to control his approach shots. He made some amazing shots on Saturday, but he also made a few shaky ones as well. Fairways and greens are the key to winning his first green jacket and completing his career grand slam. Additionally, he cannot get into a side ego fight with DeChambeau to see who can hit the ball farthest off the tee. This will like spell disaster for his overall game. Staying with what he knows he does exceedingly well will the Rory’s key to success today.
DeChambeau needs to keep doing what he is doing. He is a power player and so far that is working well for his game. One think I think he can do to improve his score today is to dial back the approach shots. Smashing a 7 iron from 200 yards might not be the best approach to the toughening course conditions as the day unfolds. Bryson does have the game to win, it is matter if he can repeat is head to head result of the last years US Open.
Conners just needs his putter to get hot. He is a smooth ball striking player that stays out of trouble. His challenge on moving day, although he shot a minus two, was how many shorter putts he missed. He had the opportunity to be in the final group against McIlroy, but his putting let him down. Again, putting will determine Conners’ fortunes during the final round.
A shoutout goes to Zach Johnson who shot a minus six on Moving day. He matched Rory’s low round and showed some of the past champions skill at playing Augusta National. I do not think he will play as well today, however I expect he will finish in the top 10.
The final round at the Masters is always great fun to watch. I am expecting to see some fantastic shots, amazing recoveries and emotions through the roof. I have no prediction for today’s final result, however my hopes lay with Rory McIlroy or Corry Conners. I do not know about you, but I will be watching!
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
Jim, I like Rory today unless Bryson gets it to a playoff. Then Bryson takes it. Think Connors fades because of the putter/pressure. Has epic potential.
Enjoy!
