If we search golf advice on the internet (about 314,000,000 results in less than .5 seconds), we would quickly be overwhelmed. Every once in a while a great piece of advice comes across my screen that I feel I must share. Well, today’s advice is brought to you by Walter Hagen:

I cannot recount the number of rounds when Hagen’s advice hit home. Everyday is different on the golf course because we never know what will happen from one swing to the next. Of course, we hope our best game will always show, but not always. Therefore to paraphrase Hagen: suck it up and make the best of your swing each day!

The Benefits Of Playing Fog Golf

Every round of golf has something to offer. Regardless of how well we play (good or bad) there are lessons to be learned. Recently, I decided to hit the links at 0630 hrs (6:30 am for you non-military folks 😉 ) At this time of year, it is usually warm and dry. Playing early birds is great fun, however lately, the early hours results in think fog. If I decided to wait for the fog to roll away, I would miss out on a great time to play. So, two days last week I hit the links to play in the fog!

I Am Not A Grateful Golfer!

This post will be short. I was playing on my home course a few days ago and came across this:

As you can see, someone took a gouge out of the green adjacent to the pin! How selfish can a golfer be to damage the green in this manner. Likely, they were frustrated with their shot and swung their club not expecting this result. However, as a long time player who values the efforts of the golf course workers, this type of reaction is unacceptable….period.

If you are frustrated with a missed putt or poor chip, do not take it out on the course. All the above action did was annoy the rest of the players, not to mention cause a significant challenge the Superintendent as they try to fix needless damage.

Learning New Things About Golf!

I believe that each day I should try and learn something new. As it turns out, yesterday I did because of two readers, Stephan and Tiffani, who comment on my post of being chased off the golf course. They recommend that I post my score anyway because that is the rules of golf. Truthfully, I never knew that a singles match play round is supposed to post for my handicap, but now I do.

Being Chased Off The Golf Course

Yesterday, I was chased off the golf course with two holes to play. I was playing in the Open Match Play event when suddenly thunder and lightening snuck up and forced us to leave the course. As we finished the 16th hole and looked back at the tee box, large flashes of white light and low crashes of thunder help us to quickly decide to head to the club house. Unfortunately, us having to leave was both good and bad.
