Playing A Shooter’s Golf Course

There are many types of golf courses that requires a different skill set. Some courses we can just bang away without fear of missing the fairway. Others, we rely on the roll to shorten the distances between tee and green. And then there a shooters courses where accuracy and distance combine to add additional challenges when playing. I was fortunate to play such a course last Sunday with my friend Mike. It was all about club selection, hitting to distance, and being on the proper side of the pin from our approach shot. Stressing About Golf Shots

Playing in a competition or on the cusp of shooting your best score heightens the stress level of most golfers. We tend to “get in our head” thus causing us to second guess our normally routine shots. It is inevitable that the closer we are to success on the links, the higher the levels of stress we need to manage. Regardless of which shot needs to be perfect, our mental approach to these situations is the key factor to managing that empowers golfers to perform under stressful conditions. I have experienced this situation many times in my career with mixed outcomes. However, as I matured as a golfer, I found that performing under stress has become easier producing brighter outcomes.

A Drill To Improve Putting Feel And Distance

Putting is a unique skill that needs care and attention. I spent a great deal of time honing my putting stroke and as a result, I feel that I have developed a groove that works best for my game. I have tried many different techniques, grips, stances and putting motions. It was all a process and one that has led me to a point where I am very confident in my putting stroke. Unfortunately, I lose my touch now and again, but I have found a drill that helps to quickly restore my equilibrium. It is simple and repeatable, thus can quickly improve my feel and distance when things to awry.

The connection between the ball and your swing is grounded in your stance. The positioning of our feet in relation to the rest of our body is simple….right? Actually, if you are new to golf, stance and ball position are complex because they are unique to each player. The stance is unique because every golfer has a different physique and athletic abilities. However, to find the stance that works for us, it is good to have an understanding about the basics. From there, we can create stance that works for our game.
