After an awesome discussion with Lorne Emery, President of the Golf Historical Society of Canada, he convinced me that looking backward might offer an easy way to lower our golf scores. As you might remember, I have recently decided to join the GHSC and venture down the road of hickory shaft golf clubs and I think I have found a new way to expand my game!

Hitting Hybrids Properly
Is there a standard method to hit a hybrid that every players should know? That question haunted me for some time until I realized that hitting hybrids is easier than I thought. Many poor hybrid shots are rooted in poor setup positions such as ball position and shoulder position. Unlike woods, the ball position prior to starting is more important than with most other clubs. Each player will be slightly different with their set up, but in my case I was playing the ball to far forward. To determine if your ball is in the proper position for your swing, the ball flight is the greatest tell. Knowing what to look for is critical to ensuring solid contact and consistent results with our hybrids.

I am on the fence on whether to change my golf grips or not. My current set are CBWs that came with my Mizuno MP20s and I love them. I still feel comfortable holding my current grips, but there is a bit of wear on a couple of them and only changing two does not seem like the way to go. I am still mulling, but it will take me a bit of time to make a final decision.

As every golfer knows, playing golf in the winter is challenging. Before we continue with the hacks, I want to clear up a slight misunderstanding regarding what winter golf actually means. Where I live, winter golf is actually fall golf because hitting the ball in snow is virtually impossible. Thus, when we use the word winter golf, it means cold, wet, and windy conditions. Okay, now that the definition of winter golf is cleared up, lets get back to how best to play golf in the winter.

Over the years, my desire to play golf has waxed and waned. Depending on the stage of my game I was experiencing, the drive or desire to play golf was minimal or overpowering. As I enter the back nine of my career, I find that different things drive me to play golf. Of course, throughout all of my hills and valleys of my game, I remain grateful that I can play. Golf is a big part of my personal life and through it I remain centered with a perspective of what is important. Recently, I have notice my golf journey is taking a new path that is leading me backwards (historically) to the evolving roots of the my passion. I am not 100% sure what direction it will finally lead, but I am going to enjoy the ride.
