mastersWhat did I learn today about golf from watching Day 1 of The Masters? It sometimes is very difficult to see if there was any benefit or lessons learned from watching the Masters. But, this year I believe that watching the roller coaster ride of some of the players I have a couple of take aways from Day 1.

I am not sure if you watched all of today’s round, but I did not. I was at work, so I caught snippets from time to time, reviewed the usual sites when I came home and that was enough to make a few observations. The Masters – Let the Games Begin

Let The Games Begin!The waiting is over! The Masters starts today! After much anticipation the honorary starters will tee things off at 8:05 am. Calling Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player (we will miss Arnold Palmer this year) to the hit the ceremonial first balls of the tournament is the beginning of “a tradition unlike any other”.

Following these golfing greats will be Jim Herman, winner of the Shell Houston Open last weekend, and Steven Bowditch. I cannot image the pressure and excitement these two will feel  following Nicklaus and Player at The Masters. I would be shaking like a leaf and hoping I made contact with the ball!  Continue reading →

Picking The Masters Champion!

Picking the Masters Champion is a very difficult task. The field is at the 2016 Masters is world-class and the smallest since 2002. With just 89 players, the top ranked players seem to have a lock on winning the ‘green jacket’. However, given the dramatic finish at the Shell Houston Open last week, it is very difficult to discount more than half the field!

Understanding the plethora of variables used by odds makers, it is quite difficult for many armchair golfers to really have a handle on who might play well and who won’t. The Masters is two days away! Tomorrow is the par 3 tournament, then let the games begin. The Masters is my favorite Major and over the past few weeks, we have discussed how players qualify, who we picked to be champion, and other aspects of fantastic golf tournament.

Main stream media has most of the news covered at nauseum, so I plan to stay away from most of those topics. As The Masters approaches, there are some news articles that caught my attention. mastersThe Masters is a golf tournament where every round counts. The four rounds of bliss, joy, fear, and agony are in the dreams of every professional and amateur golfer. The Masters is not just any golf tournament, it is “A tradition like no other“! To win at The Masters and to walk away with the green jacket, it will take four rounds of steady and almost flawless!

During all professional events, there is always that one round where the champion dominates and catapults themselves to the top of the leaderboard. Sometimes, it happens during the first round, other times it the last, but make no mistake, there is always that one round that is more important than the rest; or is there?
