The Biggest Hazard At The PGA Championship

The PGA Championship is well underway and The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, South Carolina, is living up to its hype of being a tough course to navigate. With the cut at +5, the course played more difficult than I expected. Even though this is a Major and the course set up is supposed to be challenging, I was surprised to watch the best players in have difficulty navigate the most consist and difficult hazard. Shot Selection At The PGA Championship

Watching the opening holes of the 2021 PGA Championship at was exciting and somewhat mind boggling. As the announcers second guess many of the opening tee shots, I have to agree that shot selection was a bit suspect at best for many of the big hitters. I am not sure what the players thought process was because many of them hit driver ended up their ball into the deep rough or hazard. Normally, I would say that this not really a big deal except a 3 wood sounded like the right play. Especially on the first hole of the second Major of the year.

Using a Range Finder at a Golf Major!

You heard it here first (okay that was an exaggeration!) I am probably not the first one to parrot the news that the PGA of America has authorized the use of an electronic measuring device, range finder, at the Senior, LPGA, and PGA Major golf tournament they sponsor. Their view is that the use of these devices will some how speed up play. This decision is causing a bit of a discussion in social media for the nay and yea sides. Because of the divergent from the professional golf norm, I thought it might be worth discussing.

Congratulations Brooks Koepka for Winning the 2019 PGA Championship

For the second straight year, Brooks Koepka will take home the Wanamaker Trophy. At the start of the fourth round, everyone (including myself) thought it would be walk in the park. However, starting on hole 11, his and Dustin Johnson’s fortunes began to change. That is when the PGA Championship started to get interesting.
