The 2019 PGA Championship – Day 3

There were no surprises to day at the PGA Championship. The scores were all within expected norms and Brooks Koepka played smart and maintained his 7 stroke lead. Why would he do anything different…..right?

In case you missed the action:

It is difficult to point out anything outstanding about moving day. Koepka started and finished with a 7th stroke lead. He looks strong and confident even when he is in a bit of trouble. One benefit for him is that Bethpage Black is not the type of course were a player is going to go ultra low, so Koepka will have to make a few mistakes to loss this second Major of 2019.

The real story from moving day was the Harold Varner III and Jazz Janewattananond. These virtual unknowns have played their way into contention for second and will have the opportunity to feel the real pressure of a being in contention in a Major. I honestly cannot comment on their game because I have never watched them play. So the last day of this Major should be interesting to watch these young players handle all the attention. I wish them both luck in their final round of the weekend.

Dusting Johnson will the player to beat in the group of players at -5. It is difficult to understand why he did not make a move today, but he seem to only be able to squeeze out an -1. With Koepka so far ahead, I think Johnson will focus on finishing second and beat the rest of the field.

Day 3 was both exciting and anti-climatic. Koepka is in total control of the tournament and barring anything catastrophic, he will win is second Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday!

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
