At the midway point of the 2023 Open Championship, I am not surprised at the scores except for one (but that can wait until later in the article). As I watch the players make their rounds, I am impressed by the Royal Liverpool Golf Club. The undulations are crazy and if you miss the fairway, watch out! To be fair, after hosting The Open 12 times, I think the course is set up very well and presenting a great test for all the players. Up until now, I do not see any surprises in this years Open.

Taking Appropriate Risks On Delicate Golf Shots
Every golfer will find their ball in a tough predicament in almost every round of golf. Shots made by Rory McIlroy and Victor Hovland on the 17th hole from across the road on the 17th hole at The Open demonstrate that all players need to take risks on delicate shots in order to shoot lower scores. In the case above, Hovland used a putter to save par and McIlroy chipped to save bogey. Each had to navigate a tough situation and Hovland’s delicate shot happened to work out better than McIlroy’s. Regardless, both players prevent a big number by taking the appropriate risk for their shots. It is a lesson for all golfers, but the real question is what is considered appropriate risk during a delicate golf shot?

Located on the Kent coastline, the Sandwich links will showcase the world’s best players as they compete for the Claret Jug in The 149th Open.” (The Open) Royal St George is a tough track and will test the nerves of all the players, especially the leaders, throughout the four days of competition. The Claret Jug will definitely be earned this year!

Congratulations to Shane Lowry on his win at The Open. Raising the Claret Jug is career highlight as this Irishman won in his home country. Royal Portrush played more difficult as the day continue due to inclement weather; yet, Lowry seemed to relish the tough conditions and played very well. With a four stroke lead starting the final round, he never seemed to be in danger of letting the field catch up. It is a great day for Irish golf.
