Recently, a friend of mine asked me about a solution he found on YouTube about how to hit the ball more consistently off the fairway. Without going into a great amount of detail about the video he watched, it sparked the inspiration for today’s article. As a progressive golfer, I am always on the look for potential tips that would improve my golf game. I realize that I have limitations and some suggestions are just not in my wheel house, so I try to focus on changes I can actually accomplish. Keeping this in mind, through the years of sifting through the ‘white noise’ I think I have a nose for what suggestions are just band-aide fixes and which are legit swing improvements. Understanding this concept saves me time and frustration as I embark on another season to lower my handicap index.

How Far Would You Putt From Off the Green?
I have noticed an increase in putting from off the green on the PGA Tour. I set a goal this year to increase my distance off the tee by at least 10 yards. I believe, although I am getting older, that this distance goal is a reasonable milestone that I can achieve without having to redesign my entire golf swing. I think I have a fundamentally strong swing and as such I am looking to tweak minor aspects of my game. Fortunately, I was introduced to the three “T” to help develop power and possibly achieve one of my 2021 goals.

Generally, this takes for in the way of branches, because we hit a wayward shot, from trees that suddenly decided to get in our way. Regardless of the obstruction, learning to hit a punch shot is very important to ensure we can extricate our ball out of difficult situations with the least amount of strokes.

Every once in a while my round of golf is nothing but a comedy of errors. I seem to lose focus and make silly mistakes that I should definitely avoid. As a lower handicapper, I should have command of my game such that making pointless avoidable mistakes should be second nature. Unfortunately, that is not always the case and my frustration level rises every time I add strokes to my round. Interestingly, there are a few very avoidable mistakes that are more common than most; Rick Shiels brings these to light for us so that we can improve our scores and lessen our frustration.
