In the past, I talked about selecting the right distance to play using the course and slope ratings. They are important factors to choosing which tees to play as well as the distance of the golf course. After some reading, I think that distance is often overlooked when selecting a course to play. At my home course of Osprey Links, I generally play the whites at 6000 yards and play the tips at 6400 yards from time to time. I find that the extra 400 yards doe not really affect my game except I am hitting a longer iron into the green. So, I would say that my distance for comfortably playing a golf course ranges from 6000 to 6500 yards.

As per previous years, I go through a lull in my iron striking ability until I am able to correct the my errors. I have a pretty good understanding on where my challenges lie, so that will help speed up my correction curve. I am pretty confident that you most of you are saying that if I this happens every year, why not head it off at the pass. Well, the challenge is that I never know exactly when my contact woes will show up, so trying to fixing something prematurely has never worked for my game. Kevin, a regular at The Grateful Golfer, has mentioned many times over the years that collecting and analyzing stats is more than just numbers on a page. I agree wholeheartedly. When I worked I, like Kevin, use stats off the course to determine courses of action or at least recommend a way forward. This analytical process has helped my golf game over the years because I learned to gather and apply fact based results to lower my score. This process of stat analysis is one I used to consistently break 80 and you can as well.
