Have you ever stood back and really examined the rules of golf? The efforts the governing bodies go through to level the playing field is amazing whether we agree with their final decisions or not. Regardless of how you feel, it is important to know, understand, and more importantly use the rules of golf. These clearly defined rules (recently updated in 2019 if you did not know) do not just add strokes to your game, but can save you strokes if applied properly. It is really up to you!

Opening the Door to Poor Swing Habits

Golfers in northern climes generally feel pressed for time with respect to improving their golf game. In my location, we will have a max of seven months to play golf in any given year. Generally, this is six due to weather and life, but seven months is what is available. This means that the time we have to work on our golf swing is compressed and as such many amateurs try to fix golf swing challenges quickly and that just opens the door to poor swing habits!

Update on My New Mizuno MP 20 Irons

As you are aware, I bought a new set of Mizuno MP 20 irons (5 to PW) and two Mizuno hybrids (3 and 4). To date, I have 6, 9-hole rounds under my belt and I have to say I am very satisfied with my purchases. I realize my response is to be expected because they are new, but it is more than that. I have a feeling that these new sticks will improve my game and lower my overall golf scores. Let me explain!

Teetering On The Edge Of The Abyss

For millions of golfers in North America (and other parts of the world) golf is teetering on the edge of the abyss. In our case, the golf courses opened a few short weeks ago with many playing restrictions for the protection of the patrons and workers. However, the more we play, the more we golfers are likely to become complacent with the rules. This course of action is folly because one case of COVID-19 at the golf course and catastrophe strikes.

Stepping Back to the Tips in Golf

Many amateurs fear moving to the back tees because of the added distance to every tee and approach shot. Personally, I am not fussed about this aspect of the challenge and relish the opportunity to put stress on my game. So, a few days ago I stepped back to the tips at Osprey Links Golf Course to practice playing longer distances. Unfortunately, my experiment did not go as planned, but it was great fun regardless.
