2017 US Open Review and Predictions

With under two weeks to go, many pundits are analyzing the data, watching which player is streaking, and trying to pick that underdog who may rise to the top. Leaving Strokes on The Golf Course

A recent comment on yesterdays post from Rob Courtney sparked this post. His comment: “Congratulations on your win. But we golfers do find ways of finding fault even when we are successful! Cheers, Rob.” is so true regarding the nature of golfers, I just had to expand on it. Golfers are never satisfied with their game; when the conversation starts, we usually shift towards the strokes we left on the course and how things should have been better. Winning a Golf Tournament

5th hole at Osprey Links Golf Course

Yesterday was the final round of the 22 Wing golf play downs. This yearly event selects the top 5 male and top 2 female players to represent out Wing at the Ontario Golf Regional. This military event is one of many sporting events designed to build esprit-de-corps with the ranks of the Canadian Military. Although our field was very small, I made the team and will be playing in the Ontario Golf Championship in September.  Continue reading →

Leading After 18 Holes

The first round of our 2-day stroke play tournament to make the base golf team is over. The conditions were the toughest of the year with a steady 35 kpm wind and intermittent rain. Before my friends in the UK, Scotland or Ireland start laughing, these conditions are atypical in northern Canada. Regardless, it was a tournament and we were ready to play.

The group members were moved around and as such, my group were 4 solid players. Each had the game to lead after 18 holes, but the conditions, in some cases rust, and early start challenged everyone’s game. We played a 4.5 hour round and except for the few searches in the woods, the pace was to my liking.  Continue reading →

36 Hole Golf Tournament To Make The Team

Today is the first round of our yearly 36 hole stroke play tournament. As in previous years, this tournament determines the the top 5 male and top 2 female golfers at my military base. These top players will represent my Unit at the Ontario Golf Regions in Petawawa in September. This is a yearly event for me and I look forward to hitting the links tomorrow. Continue reading →
