If you are hitting the ground first on your golf shot, well it is time to stop it! By hitting the ball first, we create solid contact, greater distances, and more accuracy on every shot. The challenge is understanding ways to fix this swing fault by using simple drills that are easy to replicate and understand. Getting Ready For Golf Season!

Spring is just around the corner. This year, the snow is receding faster than in recent years and my hope for an early spring is growing. We will have above average temperatures for the next two weeks and this shift to warmer temperatures should eliminate most of the snow. It is an exciting time for golfers in warmer climes! So, now what? With warmer temperatures on the horizon, I began thinking about what I need to do to prepare for my 2024 golf season.

Using Lines To Aim While Putting

Pursuant to yesterdays article, I placed lines on my golf balls and practiced in my basement to evaluate if this technique matches the hype. I drew three sets of lines and tried each with 10 putts to a distance of six feet. I chose this distance because it facilitated a controlled putting stroke with the intent of hitting the ball square. I have several findings I thing worth mentioning because of positive and negative results.

Aligning Putts With A Sight Line

Properly aligning putts is a fundamental skill all golfers try to accomplish. There are many different reasons or influences that can make this skill challenging. Whether the ball is in the proper position, how we square the putter face to the aim line, or if our stroke is conducive to a straight putt, aligning a putt is very important to lower golf scores. Is there a simple way to improve our putting alignment or are we cursed for ever to play the hope game on the greens.

Creating The Ball Flight You Want vs Need

Creating any type of ball flight is not overly difficult. Okay it was a tag line and depending on the shot required to produce the best results is far more challenging than on might expect. I am not talking about extricating ourselves from trouble, but say an approach shot from 175 yards that requires a baby draw/fade to safely land on the green. Being able to create a specific ball flight is more that what we routinely hit; it often relates to what is needed versus what we want to hit.
