Spring is just around the corner. This year, the snow is receding faster than in recent years and my hope for an early spring is growing. We will have above average temperatures for the next two weeks and this shift to warmer temperatures should eliminate most of the snow. It is an exciting time for golfers in warmer climes! So, now what? With warmer temperatures on the horizon, I began thinking about what I need to do to prepare for my 2024 golf season.

Fortunately, my wife and I have been walking about 5 km (3 miles) a day since the new year. I find that this alone has been beneficial for my health and will easily transfer into my preparation for golf season. I will need to step up my stretching and core training. And lastly, start to use my indoor DIY driving net more regularly. All of these things are nothing new, but will happen about 4 weeks earlier than in past years.
Additionally, I will have to dig out my golf clubs, conduct an inventory of my stuff, and make sure it is all clean and ready for the season. Additionally, I will be digging out my hickory sticks to ensure they are ready as well. All of this takes time, but not a great deal as I ensure my kit was clean before I put it away for a long winters nap.

I am involved in the organization of events at my home golf course of Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort, hickory stick events in and around Ontario, and helping junior players improve their game. All of this takes more time, but a great deal of fun and all part of my of my upcoming golf season.
The last thing I will be doing is looking for tournaments and courses to play that are in my area. I have had a couple of people aske me to play in events with them and I think it will be great fun. It is important to look early at the local courses because all the events fill up quickly. Regardless of what I come up with, I am thinking this year I will be more involved in competitive golf…..but, as always time will tell.
As you can see, preparation for my upcoming golf season is more that just dusting off the clubs. For me, being retired, I can dedicate more time to golf. It does not completely take over my summer months as I want to go kayaking, playing pickle ball, and touring the area with my wife, but it is a large part of what I like to do.
Golf season is a bit more than just playing golf. It is a lifestyle I enjoy. To maximize my enjoyment in our short season, then some planning is required. And this starts now!
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
