Every golfer has played out of the bunker. Most amateurs will play this shot a few times a round….or at least once. Personally, I play a bunker shot every 3 or 4 rounds, but that success is subject to change at any time. Playing out of a bunker is not difficult if you understand the mechanics of a bunker shot. It is different from a normal wedge shot because the sand creates a different set of influences that affect the release and ball flight. I spent a great deal of time early in my career hitting bunker shots and now I consider them just another shot during my round. There are two different ways to play each bunker shot and today we are going to discuss them both.

Successfully Hitting A Delicate Shot With Your Wedges
Using the scoring clubs with skill is a challenge for all golfers. There is no question that a player with a strong short game (the distance varies depending on skill) will shoot lower golf scores. Additionally, they will carry themselves with confidence as they know very few shots will cause them to mentally breakdown. There is one aspect of chipping around the green that all elite golfers execute without hesitation. It is the one skill that all golfers should learn and use if they want to improve their ability to play well with their wedges. It is not challenging and yet seems to dumbfound many amateurs as they develop their skills around the green.

Every round of golf produces lies that can confound most players. Hitting the ball out of the rough is definitely one of those times where understanding how to produce a great shot is needed. There is not one round of golf I have played, ever, where I did not have to hit at least one shot from the rough. Knowing I will need to hit a difficult shot forced me to realize I needed to practice and understand the process of hitting out of longer grass. It is a skill that understand, but do not always execute. That is the nature of my game. Is it the same for you?

Arguably one of the best shot game players in golf history, Phil Mickelson continues to impart his short game wisdom to the masses. I like watching his teachings and although I do not always agree with his views, I respect his expertise. There is one short game tip that I whole hardily agree with and that is how to successfully chip from off the green. His chipping tip is definitely in line with my view on how to dramatically improve our short game and lower our golf scores.
