I cannot count the number of rounds of golf where I failed to play my game. It happens less as I gain more experience, but my weak rounds are rooted in one fault that is easily avoidable. My mental focus is on being tentative vice bold. You will see that I did not say aggressive, but bold. Defined as showing an ability to take risks or being confident. Playing bold fits into most golfers abilities when they decide to let this approach be at the forefront of their game. Every round of golf produces a plethora of situations where we have the opportunity to rise to the occasion. When we do not play with confidence, think tentatively, then high scores is in our future.

Playing Slower Golf Improved My Score
On Sunday I hit the links for what I thought would be a quick round. I normally play nine holes on my new course in about 1.5 hours (give or take 15 minutes; okay give 15 minutes 😉 ) with two balls. During my last round, I was stuck behind a three 4somes. So, I was going nowhere fast. I spent a good deal of time putting and chipping as I waited to go to the next hole. I found that I needed something to occupy my mind as I slowly played the round and I easily found it.

The technique or steps needed to hit great 150 yard approach shots is simple, yet complicated. I realize that I am contradicting myself because how can something be simple and complicated at the same time. Well, it is easy. The technique used to hit consistent 150 yard golf shots is fundamental to all aspects of our golf swing and to forget just one step causes challenges to our golf score. By following all the steps of hitting a 7 iron (my preferred club from that distance, yours might be different) from 150 yards, I found that my ability to consistently break 80 was assured.

Every golf knows that the scoring distance varies depending on the skill factor. Regardless of your handicap, I think we can all agree that mastering the approach shot from 100 yards or closer will do wonders for our score. I am always searching for new techniques that will help sharpen my shot making that is easy and repeatable. The videos I like to watch are generally throwback to my early years of learning the game and I found one that is perfect for my game and hopefully for yours as well.
