What To Do When The Ball Is Above Your Feet

Depending on the course you play, you may be faced with a plethora of lies that are far from flat. My old home course of Osprey Links offers a multitude of challenging lies on the separate nines. It is a very fun track that challenges all of our shot making ability because of the dichotomy of terrain. Specifically on the back nine, I was guaranteed to have lie were the ball was above my feet. It is a shot I work on in practice because I knew it was practice time well spent. Because of this, I thought it would be a good idea to cover how to make such a golf shot.

Is Ball Position Really That Important?

I read so many articles, watch a mountain of videos and tried many different variations of ball position to be an expert. Haha, if you believe that well there is something about swamp land for sale. I have tried so many different combinations with so many different clubs that I think I am floating between ‘got it’ to ‘what the heck am I doing’! There is one thing that I did find out through all my trial and errors; there is no right answer for this topic. However, I think I do have a solution to the possibilities.

Pulling My Short Irons Left

A new challenge in my game has arisen. Over the past few rounds I started pulling my irons left. This anomaly is starting to cause me fits because my expectation is to hit the ball where I am without having to adjust my setup to aim right. I think I know what the problem, however I will have to experiment the next time I hit the links. As we do not have a driving range close to my home, I will have to take the time on the course to figure out what is happening. Unfortunately, this process is what is available to me right now and it does challenge my ability to fix swing issues.

My New Golf Stance Is Working

A month ago I mentioned that I was going to change my stance a bit in order to hit my ball a farther with the same control. I figured (after reading and watching a great deal information) that my stance was a too wide with my irons and too square with my driver. So, I decided to make the effort to change my stance slightly to see what happens. Well, I am happy to report that it is working out very well and I feel more confident than before…..with a few minor challenges.

Hitting The Perfect Wedge Shot

If you regularly shoot over 90 our wedges are used more than any other club except the putter. The reason for this is that we miss the green more than we hit it on approach shots. Not to worry, this errand shot allows for more use of our scoring clubs….our wedges. The ability to hit the perfect wedge shot is a fundamental must for any player seeking lower golf scores. Of course there are many different theories about how to hit the perfect wedge for players to try, however I am a supporter of the fundamentals when hitting our wedges. Keeping that in mind, many players overlook ball position prior to contact because they think that moving the ball around in their stance helps make better wedge shots. This theory, in my opinion, is folly and should be revisited my most amateurs.
