The Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort Club Championship is in the books. Yesterday, I played a match play round against my friend Misha for all the marbles. Not surprisingly, it was a very close match that came down to the last hole. As we battled back and forth, it was clear that neither of us was giving an inch and it would take a great shot or two to close the match. Regardless of the results, it was a fun competitive match that was a highlight of my 2023 season.

What a Fantastic Match Play Duel
Match Play format is a duel between two golfers where anything can happen. As it turned out, my match yesterday against JC turned into a hole by hole battle where neither of us could break our opponents regardless of what we threw at each other. The round had a few surprises, but mostly it was 18 holes of great shot after great shot. JC and I both finished with 4 over par 78 with no doubles. It seemed that when one of us gained a slight advantage, the other responded to half the hole. Overall, it was the most fun I have had in a match in a very long time.

Yesterday, I was chased off the golf course with two holes to play. I was playing in the Open Match Play event when suddenly thunder and lightening snuck up and forced us to leave the course. As we finished the 16th hole and looked back at the tee box, large flashes of white light and low crashes of thunder help us to quickly decide to head to the club house. Unfortunately, us having to leave was both good and bad.

I recently arrived at the Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort to a big surprise. I figure I will just show you instead of trying to give a big blurb.
Yup, I am the proud owner of a reserved parking spot at my golf course. It was not a large competition that I won last year, but it was enough to have a parking spot right in front of the clubhouse.
I want to thank Mike and Brenda, Owner Operators, for providing the prize for the club championship. This ‘bragging rights’ prize is an awesome incentive for me to hone my skills. For those members of the Mattawa Golf and Ski Club who read The Grateful Golfer, the sign up sheets are in the proshop.

I am Out of The Club Championship
My second chance at winning the Club Championship is officially over. I played my second match on Friday and for the second time lost in the home stretch. As you may remember, Osprey Links runs stroke and net Match Play tournaments to determine the club champion and to award a parking spot. Unfortunately, I could not close the deal and I will have to wait until next year to throw my hat into the ring again.
