How often have we discussed the importance of distance off the tee box. The reality of how far we actually hit the ball compared to our ability to post low golf scores. Like all things, many golfers (including myself sometimes) think they can hit a golf ball farther than we really can. Yes, I can poke a ball out to about 280 or 290 once in a blue moon, but my average distance is not anywhere near that length. The key to my last statement is my average distance off the tee. I found some interesting statistics from credible sources that grounds my view of driver distance and shows that my focus on hitting the ball farther might be taking up to much of my focus.

Hitting The Ball Ridiculously Long on the Golf Course
We continually hear of players hitting the ball ridiculously long. I am not talking about a few extra yards, but the pros hitting their ball hundreds of yards father most amateurs. It is impressive and disheartening at the same time to hear or watch their ball sail to the moon and back. I am not sure it is good for the game, but it is the way of the future. Continue reading
Brooke Henderson Is Back in Contention
A quick update regarding Brooke Henderson after the 3rd round of the HSBC Women’s World Championship. After shooting a smooth 65, Brooke is tied for 3rd only 4 strokes back. This may seem like an insurmountable lead by Nelly Korda, but if there is one thing we have learned over the years, is that no lead is secure; just ask Greg Norman. Continue reading
Power or Finesse in Golf

Finesse
I was watching two volleyball games at the local college. The Canadore Panthers, men and women, played against Le Cité college for a regularly scheduled match. The women hit the floor first and then the men. As I watched these young athletes play, I could not help but notice the similarities between of the volleyball matches and golf.
As you can imagine, the women’s match was mostly finesse with some power and the men’s match was mostly power with a bit of finesse. Without dissecting all the possible finer points, I would suggest that the LPGA and the PGA Tours follow the same style of play. Continue reading
