A quick update regarding Brooke Henderson after the 3rd round of the HSBC Women’s World Championship. After shooting a smooth 65, Brooke is tied for 3rd only 4 strokes back. This may seem like an insurmountable lead by Nelly Korda, but if there is one thing we have learned over the years, is that no lead is secure; just ask Greg Norman.
The interesting thing about Henderson’s 3rd round is that she only took 23 putts. Most of her other stats were the same, but she shot 6 putts under her career average of 29.40. Given that the rest of her stats were about normal, her putting was the key factor to here success.
However, before we jump to a quick conclusion, there is another driving stat that jumped out at me that should not be ignored. Her driving distance in the 3rd round was on average 17 yards farther than normal. I am not sure if it made that much difference because her GIR was 12/18, but on the surface it is something that jumps out at the average golfer. The is extra yardage off the tee seems to have helped because she birdied all of the par 5s.
Regardless, Brooke Henderson is in contention for tomorrow’s last round and I wish her a great round and a few luck bounces as she pursues her 6 professional win.
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
