Hitting your driver off the fairway is not normally a shot most of us would try. It is a challenging shot and requires a slightly different set up routine. Additionally, I find that the course conditions need to be drier than normal in order to allow the driver head to bounce off the ground. Given my normal swing plane, hitting a driver off the fairway is not a normal shot, however it something I tried last Men’s night with great success.

Playing In A Scramble Format Golf Tournament
It is time to clear up a misconception about two golf tournament formats that often confuse many amateurs. Many people confuse ‘best ball’ and ‘scramble’ formats because it is not really intuitive. So today, I want to explain what a scramble tournament format is about because I will be playing in Men’s night tonight using this exact format. On a side note, most charity tournaments use the scramble format because it is easy and fun for many non / beginner golfers. I enjoy a scramble tournament because it offers a fun way to interact with your playing partners.

There are many times when I just want to head out to the golf course and hit a little white ball. I have no intention to improve my game, I just want to enjoy my time on the links. Take today for instance, I am heading to Osprey Links to play Senior’s day with my old crew. It is going to be a great time and I have not illusions about my score. Likely we will play a format where individual scores do not matter. And today, this approach will be an awesome thing because I just want to have fun and enjoy playing golf with my friends. There are many ways to enjoy your time on the links and I think I have used most of them over the years.

Playing golf offers a roller coaster ride that many players ride with anticipation. Golfers are the eternal optimists who live in anticipation for 0.5 seconds at a time. From the point of contact until we actually see our ball flight, we ride the high of hope that of hitting that one uplifting golf shot that quenches our desires for excellence. Our intent is to always hit shots like these, but unfortunately there are very few instances where the thrill of hope lasts until our ball lands.
