I clean my golf club 98% of the time after a shot. I do this because I learned a long time ago that clean grooves help me control the amount of spin I place on the ball. This inturn helps me control the release of the ball on the green. Hence, I am almost neurotic about keeping my clubs clean and I think it makes me a better golfer. If you do not have the habit of cleaning your clubs after each shot, I recommend that you start because it is important and I have the science to prove it!

Demystifying A Stimpmeter
When signing into the proshop of a new golf course, I usually ask what the greens are running. This simple question refers to how fast the greens are playing. In my opinion, a reasonable speed for amateurs is between ten and eleven on the stimpmeter. The stimpmeter is a device used to measure the speed of a golf course putting green by applying a known velocity to a golf ball and measuring the distance traveled in feet. It is not a very scientific device, but is very important if golfers understand what this means. The intent of the article is to demystify a stimpmeter so we can better prepare ourselves for a great round of golf.

After 10 years, I decided to buy a new golf bag. I looked around on the net, but decided to make the 3.5 hour trek to Golf Town in Ottawa to have a better understanding of what I was looking for in a new cart bag. I knew I wanted something smaller than my Ping bag, but with enough pockets to hold all my stuff. Additionally, I wanted it to be lighter for when I am pushing it around the golf course. Fortunately, I found what I was looking for and in a unique pattern that I quite like.
Continue readingGolf’s False Assumptions
Every golfer understands the main premise of playing is to hit as few strokes as possible. It is the one sport where less is more. My best rounds have been subpar and those scores brought me the most joy. It is kind of an odd approach to a sport, yet it is the foundation of participation. Keeping this in mind, I have a few false assumptions that amateurs make that flies in the face of the core tenet of golf. Additionally, the same amateurs focus their approach to golf that actually elicits higher golf scores; kind of strange, right?
Continue readingShopping Online For Golf Stuff
Living in the country, there are no opportunities to shop for golf stuff unless I drive about 3.5 hours. This limitation is okay because when I do make it to the golf store, I spend a great deal of time window shopping for something that I need (or want 😉 ). In the meantime, I try to shop online for all my golfing needs and in the past the experience was quite rewarding. Unfortunately, this year is far less productive or rewarding. I went online to my usual places and was not enticed to open my wallet…..I wonder if I am missing something?
