Golf is a funny game because no matter how hard I try, it seems my swing changes from day to day. Okay, that is a bit dramatic, however I have noticed that I do have a tendency to swing differently from time to time. This ‘hiccup’ is most prevalent with my hickory sticks as I am working on my early season game. I am fairly confident that every golfer has this challenge and often seeks remedies to eliminate at least one of the multiple swing errors. Fortunately, I have two things that help my game and I am confident they will help yours as you navigate towards improving over the 2026 golf season.

Is The Golf Ball Position Really Important?
Where do you align your ball in relation to the centre of your stance? Depending on which club you have in your hand, it is recommended that you adjust the ball position between your feet. This is always a great topic of conversation because most golfers understand the concept, but fail in the execution of the process. Unfortunately, ball position is also tied to your swing plane, swing mechanics, and contact position. On any given day, our golf swing can be in top form or not. This bold statement (not really that bold actually, right?) is true for every player regardless of their skill level. One of the things I learned over the years of playing is that my warm up does directly contribute to my ball striking. No warm up, then it takes a few holes to get into the swing of things. 😉 If I take the time to warm up properly, which takes about 20 minutes, then I notice a significant improvement in my game at the start of my round. Why don’t I warm up evey time, will that is a question that I cannot really answer; it is a quandary for sure. Regardless, how I warm up is as important as actually warming up. Let me explain.

Often overlooked in the discussion as the greatest golfer of all time, Sam Snead is definitely high on the list. With 82 PGA Tour wins (tied with Tiger Woods for the most all time), which included 7 Majors, he is never really considered to be the GOAT. Major wins appears to be the benchmark, but that is a discussion for another day. What I found interesting about a tip from Snead is that it is simple, easy to replicate and produces results. Considering the prolific success of Snead, it might be something worth exploring.

Many golfers are riddled with the challenge of self-doubt. It seems to be the nature of most athletes in any sport, but golf accentuates the mental challenges of knowing our golf game. After many years of experience on the links, I still encounter situations where I know the shot and I still let negative thoughts control my play. I do immediately recognize the issue, yet I cannot change the narrative. I do believe I am not alone and most golfers, regardless of experience and skill level, face the same situation during every round of golf.
