With the advent of the computer and platforms that show amateur golfs how to play, many beginners forgo the requirement for lessons or at least they think they do not need professional help. This viewpoint might be true for someone just dabbling in golf, but for the avid player I would suggest that trying to mimic a skill off the internet without a reasonable foundation of understanding of the mechanics of golf is a fool’s errand. I know, after many many attempts, that some skills are duplicatable and others are nearly impossible to mimic. Which is which is rather simple to discern if you sit and think about the mechanics you are trying to master.

Hitting The Ball With Intent
Many golfers think they hit the ball with the intent for success. I definitely try to set the conditions for success, however sometimes I fail miserably. The many challenges to hitting the ball perfectly for our swing each time are daunting. Golf is a sport of decisions. Regardless where you are on the course, you are making a plethora of decisions in order to shoot your lowest score possible. I think this game has more definitive decisions than most sports and as such experience is a key factor to being successful. Another critical factor about playing well is to check our ego. Sometimes our ego lures us down a rabbit hole into a wonderland of crazy. The key for most amateurs is to understand what they can and cannot do with their clubs in order to select the right shot for any given situation. There takes a bit of imagination to be a great putter in golf. Understanding who our ball will react to the conditions of the green is something gleaned through experience. I have played golf for 50 years and I still find it challenging sometimes on the short grass. I often wonder why after all this time I still find it challenging to hit my ball into the hole from a relatively short distance. Often my misses are a result of choosing the wrong aim point. I make solid contact and my ball rolls over where I chose, but it still misses the hole. Why is that and can it please stop!
