So What is Next in My Golfing World?

create a grateful golferThe 2016 golf season is over. The Ryder Cup was a fitting way to end a great year. We lost a giant in Arnold Palmer. Dustin Johnson and Brooke Henderson finally had their break out season that was expected by all. And Rory McIlroy salvaged his season by winning the FedEx Cup. But, professional golf is not the only thing happening in the golfing world.

Many amateurs, including myself, hit the links as often as possible in attempts to shoot their lowest score ever. Others decided that having fun and not keeping score was the way to play. And yet, a final group just hit the ball and enjoyed being on the links. Unfortunately, their golf season is also ending. For those of us in the northern clime and now is the time for introspection. What is Stopping You From Playing Golf?

What is stopping you from playing golf? Which hurdle is greater than all others that prevents golfers from looping the course as often as they would like. The answer is not complex, however many pundits point to economic reasons and various customer service theories for the lack of participation.

I am not convinced the pundits are correct. Sometimes the simple answer is overlooked because it is…well…too simple! Golfing is an addictive sport/game/hobby that accepts any level of commitment. The challenge for most is figuring out how much effort they want to expend hitting the links.

Have a Spectacular Saturday!

Saturdays hold special meaning for most people. It is the first full day of the weekend and the only opportunity for most players to hit the links.

I hope this Saturday is special for you and the beginning of something fantastic.

Only you can create the day you want! Have a spectacular Saturday.

I am a grateful golfer. See you on the links.

Brrr…..It is Cold On the Golf Course

Fall is quickly approaching and it is time to break out the multiple layers of clothing stuffed away for golfing emergencies. My golf gloves have secretly made their way to my golf bag and my toque is already a permanent resident. So I am all set for another month or so of fall golf.

glimmer is hope

Evening golf is slowly transitioning into afternoon golf and early birds are now early morning birds. The encroachment of cooler temperatures is a fact of life living in Canada, but one most of us gladly embrace. Yet, most golfers stubbornly reject the idea of transitioning to another activity. This is where my challenges arise; staying mentally prepared to play golf as the glimmer of hope for another awesome round fades away into the horizon! Continue reading

Do You Really Care About the FedEx Cup?

The FedEx Cup is intended to be an interesting golf competition because of the “play well – move on” format. However, over the past few years, my view on the FedEx Cup has started to change. At the Barclays, 125 players will start, but only 100 players will move on to the next event at the Deutsche Bank Championship. The third week at the BMW championship will only have 70 players competing; then at the TOUR Championship, 30 players will be left to vie for the 10 million dollar grand prize.

In previous posts, I suggested that the FedEx Cup would become infinitely more excited by adopting the World Cup format. Keep narrowing the field, but base it on how a player performs that week, not on the accumulation of points throughout the year.  Continue reading
