Varying Distances With Our Irons Is A Challenge

As an amateur golfer who loves to work on his game, I find it a challenge to when my balls travel varying distances. There are days when I am crushing the ball where what would normally be a 7 iron, for example, I am hitting a comfortable 8 iron. That is a change of 10 to 15 yards for reasons unknown. I cannot explain why my ball is travelling farther, but it is and I need to embrace that change even for a day. After the round, I try to figure out why I was hitting my ball better on that day than others. Guess what, I do not have the slightest idea why!

My New Golf Stance Is Working

A month ago I mentioned that I was going to change my stance a bit in order to hit my ball a farther with the same control. I figured (after reading and watching a great deal information) that my stance was a too wide with my irons and too square with my driver. So, I decided to make the effort to change my stance slightly to see what happens. Well, I am happy to report that it is working out very well and I feel more confident than before…..with a few minor challenges.

Three Good or Three Bad Golf Shots

While playing golf yesterday, I bogeyed the par 5, 512 yard hole twice. As a nine hole golf course, I had the opportunity to play the same hole with the same results. Needless to say, I was very disappointed because I expect to shoot a par or better on the par 5s. I believe my game is such were on most par 5s I have an opportunity to gain ground on my score. Well, yesterday was not the case. It was interesting that the same results resulted in the same type of swing errors and I because of my attitude, I was able to push past the disappointing results.

Chipping Past The Hole To Lower Our Golf Score

Chipping past the hole is a thing. I often wondered if the advice we receive about putting with enough speed to ensure the ball has enough force to pass the hole my 8 inches (it is actually 17 inches) should be applied to chipping. The old adage of “100% of short putts do not go in” is a great one because it is very true. After a bit of introspection on my chipping game, I realize that most of my chips are short and never have a chance to drop in the hole. The challenge for most amateurs, including myself, is the fear of being too aggressive and leaving a putt that is far outside the ‘gimmie range’. Is this a challenge for your game?

Chunking A 40 Yard Golf Shot

All golfers chip the ball for about 40 yards. The fact that we do not have enough distance to make most long par 4 holes, this shortish distance plays greatly the shots required to get up and down. The principles of chipping the ball from 40 yards are similar to around the green. The technique I recommend focuses on how we use our wrists from this distance and why it is an important skill to master.
