Golfing Was Fantastic This Week

This week was one of the best of my 2023 golf season. I played in two scrambles and one scramble match play with great results in all the events. Every year I have a week or two like this and in 2023, this was my first. I always look forward to these short periods of lots of golf and it is always better when I play well with positive results. And this week was better that expected!

Preparing For A Golf Match

I am currently in two match play tournaments at my home course of Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort. These events (which I organize) are my attempt to involve more golfers to play tournaments at my home course. Currently, I am playing well, however each match is unique and because of this my preparation must be tailored differently. I have not played against any of my competitors before so the unknown forces me to evaluate my play without considering my opponent.

Being Chased Off The Golf Course

Yesterday, I was chased off the golf course with two holes to play. I was playing in the Open Match Play event when suddenly thunder and lightening snuck up and forced us to leave the course. As we finished the 16th hole and looked back at the tee box, large flashes of white light and low crashes of thunder help us to quickly decide to head to the club house. Unfortunately, us having to leave was both good and bad.

Staying The Course In Match Play

Playing in a match play event does require a bit of strategy. But when that is starting to fail, what is a golfer to do? When your opponent is playing well and you cannot get traction on the score, how do you overcome the situation. Well, my advice is to just stay the course. It is as simple as playing your game and following the strategy you laid to win the match. This is what happened to me yesterday during the first round of the Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort Match Play event.

Losing A Dollar Or The Bragging Rights

Many amateur and professional golfers like to make side bets with their fellow golfers. Most of the time, it is very low stakes with a side order of bragging rights. For years, my playing partners did not want to have any side bets until Mike came on the scene. Since, Mike and I have a tradition of challenging each other with a small side bet. It is all in fun and we still continue to play regardless of how well each of us is swinging the club at that time. And after our last outing, the tradition continued.
