For the second year in a row, I was invited to the home and away golf tournament between the Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort and Osprey Links Golf course. The format for this friendly match is a two person scramble match play. Each team has seven pairings with one point awarded for each nine holes won. Half points are permitted. Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort hosted the first leg of this year’s tournament. Yesterday, converged at Mattawa to start the fun and create a whole new set of golf stories. It was a great day had by all.

Running A Match Play Event At The Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort
As in years past, I am running a fun, members only, stroke match play event at the Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort starting 9 August. This year’s event is free and the prize is bragging rights. Because I am new to the Mattawa course, I am a bit late getting things off the ground. We are only running a stroke event because it is no way to confirm the players handicaps. Regardless, it should be a fun time and the draw will be determined at random once I have gather all the names.

After thousands of rounds of golf, I thought that there was very little left to accomplish given my skill level. Well, last Thursday during in our scramble Men’s Night competition I reached a new milestone. The four man scramble was played at the Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort, my home course. When we first started playing, Mike, Barry, Charlie and I had hopes of playing well because of the favourable scoring conditions. And score well we did. Starting at the first hole, we played golf at a higher level than normal; Ii was very exciting and a great deal of fun. I am grateful I was able to participate is that magical round.

Club selection will make or break any round of golf. It is one of fundamental tenants that all golfers must learn. I am not sure that anyone can be taught club selection or can they? I have played thousands of rounds of golf and through trial and error I have learned how to select the wrong club at the right time. My statement might seem crazy, but sometimes going against our gut feel or learned distances is the proper club choice to make the results we desire. Hence, we are making the wrong club choice at the right time.

Many golfers lament about playing poor golf. It becomes all encompassing and they forget about the other aspects of hitting the links. Last Friday, my old golfing crew played at my home course of Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort. We played early in the day and were finished to by lunch. We are trying to play together at least once a month since I changed golf courses this year and so far we are hitting that goal. As we looped my home course, I can say that my golf was less than stellar, but he 3.5 hours on the links was the best round of the year.
