Fixing Poor Contact With Your Putter

I will not use the dreaded words – the yips – because that is a complete lost of confidence with the flat stick. We can still struggle making poor contact with our putter without losing out confidence. Many times, it is something that we are suddenly doing or not doing with our putter stroke that is causing poor contact and more missed putts. It happens to me from time to time and I have found a way to fix this challenge is short order. It is not difficult and everyone can do it; but, it does require a bit of focus.

How To Make Short Putts Count

The 2024 US Open demonstrated that making short putts are critical to playing great golf. I watch player after player hit putts to around 4 feet only to have to sink this knee knocker for par. Do you have favourite golf drill? Of the 27 million drills (google search) I wonder if you have one drill that you rely on to make your game sharp. Develop The Speed Of The Greens With One Easy Drill

I am fortunate to represent Osprey Links Golf Course on the Senior Men’s Ryder Cup team. This team will compete against four other teams in the region with a chance to play at the provincial championship in August. The interesting aspect of this competition is that I will play on three different courses in the span of five weeks. The change in venues will challenge my ability to adjust to the speed of the greens at each club to ensure I help my team gain the much needed points. Fortunately, I found a simple drill by Paula Creamer that builds on my putting foundation that is easily transportable to any golf course. I can say that it works very well and I plan to use it today when I play in the second leg of our competition.

Stop Three Putting

If there is one thing I hat more that anything is three putting. I am confident that all of you feel the same way. I work on my short game all the time in order to reduce my scores. I believe that the most strokes saved during any round is on the green, so it only makes sense to eliminate extra strokes in needless three putts. I have talked about three putting and lag putting in previous posts, however I found I can never stop looking to ways to improve this area of my game. Well, you are in luck because I found another drill that just might help us eliminate three putting from our game forever.
